To
provide practical and emotional support to clients of
sexual violence over a six-week period.
Receive
details of clients from the STAR Project and make initial
contact within 48 hours.
Arrange a six week programme of contact with the client,
which is expected to take place in the client's home.
Provide
clients and their families with whatever support, advice
and information is required, to help them deal with
the practical, social and emotional impact of the assault.
This support may involve some of the following: -
- Enabling
clients to talk freely about the assault;
- Providing information about health related services
(e.g. GUM clinics, pregnancy testing etc.);
- Providing information about police and court procedures;
- Providing information about other relevant local agencies
(e.g. housing, benefits etc.);
- Liasing with other agencies to obtain information
or services on behalf of the client;
- Assisting clients to identify future options and make
informed choices at the end of the six-week period.
Maintain
regular contact throughout the six-week period.
Complete
report forms after each visit and forward to the STAR
Project.
Consult
with the STAR Project to review the progress of cases,
particularly where referral to other professionals/agencies
may be necessary.
Ensure that
the STAR Project is aware of your availability, giving
reasonable notice of holidays.
Attend regular
Supervision and Support meetings.
Initial
Support Workers are expected to travel by car or public
transport to see clients within their own locality.
On occasions, you may be asked to travel further afield
within West Yorkshire.
Initial
Support Workers will be available for a minimum of two
visits per week. Because of the nature of the work the
actual hours worked are flexible and should be agreed
with the STAR Project.
It is expected
that Initial Support Workers will feel able to commit
to a minimum of 1 year following completion of training.
